Dell announces a slew of storage products

CBR Staff Writer Published 12 January 2012

They revolve around the Compellent Storage Center 6.0

Dell has announced a series of new connected storage products, which revolve around and run on the Fluid Data IP backbone, built after Compellent was acquired in 2009.

Compellent Storage Center 6.0 will be updated, among several other new offerings in pipeline, while the company will also be implementing optimisation package for Microsoft SharePoint deployments, plus improvements in its EqualLogic and PowerVault integrations.

The new Compellent system allows for 'thin provisioning' and integrates VMware software, powered by a 64-bit operating system.

Dell also announced that all of its storage products now work natively with its Force10 Ethernet switch routes and PowerConnect networking switches, as well as Brocade's Storage Area Network (SAN) packages.

Dell's DR4000 Ocarina deduplication and compression array capabilities is aimed at Small and Medium Businesses (SMB), which provides a storage of 40TB, 81TB or 135TB respectively, in single appliances.

Dell DX storage, Dell Microsoft SharePoint assessment, design, and deployment services and AvePoint DocAve software - all would be part of a bigger framework of Dell's latest Microsoft SharePoint Infrastructure Optimization package, which enables better SharePoint lifecycle management and improved capacity utilisation - according to Bob Fine, Director of Product Marketing, SharePoint.
